The NK LA 16 is an extra spacious nest box made from 20 mm thick larch wood, specifically designed for swifts. Thanks to the use of durable larch wood, the box has a significantly longer lifespan than standard nest boxes made from spruce.

The nest box is suitable for installation on façades under gutters, roof edges or eaves – the natural nesting location of the swift.

This nest box is also regularly used by the house sparrow. This increases the likelihood that swifts will discover the box. When swifts wish to occupy the nesting site, they usually take over the box from the house sparrows.

Protection against damage

The entrance hole is fitted with a woodcrete front plate. This makes it more difficult for larger birds, such as ring-necked parakeets, to damage or enlarge the opening. This significantly reduces the risk of the nest box being compromised.

Practical and easy to maintain

The nest box can be easily opened from the front by turning two screw hooks. This allows the entire front panel to fold forward, making inspection and maintenance simple.

After installing swift nest boxes, it is advisable to temporarily block the entrance (e.g. with a plug) to prevent house sparrows from settling in too early. From mid-April onwards, the entrance can be reopened when the first swifts return from their wintering areas.

If the box has previously been used by house sparrows, it is recommended to remove the old nest after the breeding season. Swifts prefer an empty nest box. If the box is used exclusively by swifts, cleaning is generally hardly necessary, as this species uses very little nesting material.
