Description

This built-in nesting box is suitable as a replacement for swift nesting sites in facades and is intended for use in new construction. The height of this built-in brick fits perfectly within a 3-layer wall format. House sparrows also favor this nest box, which helps swifts to discover it more easily. If a swift attempts to take over a nest occupied by house sparrows, the sparrows are often evicted without mercy. The built-in nest box is made from FSC®-certified WoodStone.

  • This built-in brick is installed horizontally into the facade, with the front set back 2 to 3 cm, allowing stone strips to be placed in front. At the location of the square entrance in the box, you must create your own entrance opening in the stone strips. Make this entrance opening 65 mm wide and 30 mm high horizontally.
  • Ideally, install multiple built-in nest boxes together with a minimum horizontal and vertical spacing of 50 cm.
  • Where possible, install built-in bricks high up, beneath the eaves. If that is not feasible, ensure they are built at least 4 meters high on the facade. Avoid placing boxes directly over doors or windows.
  • Facades facing north or east are preferred. Other wind directions are also possible (for example, directly under the roof overhang). Avoid installing the boxes in locations that receive full sun throughout the day, and do not place them on southwest facades to prevent rain intrusion.
  • Do not add nesting material.

This built-in nest box does not require cleaning. Swifts will remove excess nesting material themselves (for example, if a house sparrow has occupied it).
