Description
For mitigation and compensation of pole mounted house martin boxes, a pole mounted house martin box is a good option. A pole mounted nesting box provides multiple artificial nesting sites. It also leaves enough space for house swallows to build natural nests at the pole mounted nesting box. A swallow loft is most likely to be discovered and used if it is placed in close proximity to the existing colony. If there is no colony nearby, there is little chance that the pole mounted nesting box will be discovered. To increase the chance, lure sounds can be used. This seems to work somewhat but certainly offers no guarantee. A total of 18 artificial nests are pre-assembled. To make it extra attractive to the swallows, a mud pool can be constructed in the immediate vicinity. The swallows can collect mud here to reduce the nest entrance or to build natural nests. This pole mounted nesting box is constructed of a metal frame and finished with exterior Plywood. It is treated with a layer of spray cork and an Ecolabel paint, colour RAL 9010. The roof is coated with a layer of black roofing leather. When properly installed, the pole mounted nesting box withstands at least wind force 10.
A swallow loft can be placed anywhere where house swallows nest.
The pole mounted nesting box comes with a galvanized metal thick-walled mast 6 meters long.
The mast is grounded for extra stable and safe installation.
- Also supplied with the pole mounted nesting boxes are the means to install the pole such as bags of quick concrete and means to keep the pole stable for the first few days after installation.
- The pole should be driven at least 1 to 1.5 meters into the ground, depending on the soil conditions at the site.
- To protect the pole mounted nesting boxes from vandalism, it is advisable to establish prickly vegetation around the pole mounted nesting box.
Make sure it does not grow too high or it will obstruct the house swallows’ flight path.
If desired, we can provide full installation services.

The artificial nests cannot be removed.
If desired, some nesting material can be removed through the entrance opening.
This is especially recommended if sparrows have been nesting in the nest bowls. Furthermore, the pole mounted nesting box does not require any maintenance.
If necessary, the head of pole mounted nesting boxes can be repainted after a few years.
