Methodology
Nest boxes were hung at various locations for blue tits, great tits, nuthatches, flycatchers, collared robins, robins, starlings, tawny owls, little owls, and kestrels, among others. Bat boxes and squirrel nesting boxes have also been installed in the park. Nest boxes are maintained by the Efteling itself.
In late 2016, two kestrel boxes on pole and two owl boxes in trees (in the vicinity of the old owl box that was in dire need of replacement) were installed at Efteling Golf Park.
Years of monitoring
Annually, all nest boxes are checked by our specialists. In a comprehensive inspection report, the recommendations, areas for improvement and concerns are handed over to the Efteling. Of course, other animal welfare and nature conservation aspects that the specialists encounter during their inspection are also passed on to the Efteling.
The results of the annual nest box check are pleasing. Nest box occupancy averages around 70 percent!
