This Swift nest box is perfect for inclusion in new constructions or renovations, especially in the hard-to-reach locations that Swifts typically prefer, such as under the eaves.
As with all our WoodStone® products, the nest box provides excellent protection from predators and ensures insulation against temperature extremes, offering a safe and comfortable environment for its occupants.
This built-in nest box is made entirely from FSC®-certified wood concrete.
This swift nest block is suitable for both new builds and renovation projects. It is designed to be built into walls with narrow cavities. The block sits on the outer wall, with about 55 mm extending into the cavity.
If your cavity is 100 mm or more, there is still enough room for insulation behind the block, especially when the space behind the wall is heated. The cavity insulation can continue behind the block, so no thermal bridge is created. If some insulation needs to be cut away, make sure to cut neatly around the edge of the block.
This block can also be used in rendered walls, as it has a flat WoodStone front surface suitable for rendering. Use a form or spacer to keep the entrance hole clear and prevent it from being blocked or made smaller by the render.
For best results, install the block in the gable end on the north or east side of the building, about three brick courses below the top. This gives the ideal height and keeps the nest away from frequent human activity.
Swifts prefer to nest in colonies, so it’s recommended to install several blocks together. Leave at least 40 cm between each block. The boxes should be installed at a height of 5 meters or more.
No nesting material is required inside the blocks. Also, make sure the flight path is clear—avoid placing trees or large shrubs in front of the wall
This integrated nest box does not require cleaning. Swifts themselves will remove excess nesting material (for example, if a house sparrow has been in the nest box).
