Description
For mitigation and compensation of house martin nests, a house martin wall till is a good option. A wall till provides multiple artificial nesting sites. It also leaves enough space for house martins to build natural nests at the pole mounted nesting boxes. A wall-mounted house martin can be used to create a colony on the facade at a desired location. A martin wall till is most likely to be discovered and used if it is placed in close proximity to the existing colony. If there is no colony nearby, there is little chance that the wall mounted nesting box will be discovered. To increase the chance, lure sounds can be used. This seems to work somewhat but certainly offers no guarantee. A total of nine artificial nests are pre-assembled. To make it extra attract I have to the martin, a mud puddle can be constructed in the immediate vicinity. Here the martin can collect mud to reduce the nest entrance or to build natural nests. This wall mounted nesting box is constructed of a metal frame and finished with exterior Plywood. It is treated with a layer of spray cork and an Ecolabel paint, colour RAL 9010. The roof has a layer of black roofing leather.
