HT MU 05 House Sparrow Tower excluding pole
Various provisions are used for the mitigation and compensation of house sparrows. These may be nest boxes or house sparrow towers. The HT MU 05 House Sparrow Tower has been developed in accordance with the dimensions specified in the Dutch BIJ12 House Sparrow Knowledge Document and therefore fits perfectly within nature-inclusive construction and renovation projects.
This house sparrow tower provides house sparrows (and also tree sparrows) with an alternative nesting site before, during and after renovation works or new construction projects. It is also an ideal solution for supporting the expansion of local populations.
Effective solution for house sparrows
The tower offers no fewer than 24 nest boxes under one roof for a colony of house sparrows. This provides ample opportunities for multiple breeding pairs to establish themselves. Some of the nest boxes will be used for breeding, while others will serve as shelter and overnight roosts. The nest boxes have an entrance hole of 34 mm. When the tower is placed in more agricultural areas and on farmyards, tree sparrows also make use of it.
High-quality materials
This tower is constructed from waterproof plywood (FSC®). The roof is covered with black roofing felt and includes ventilation, helping to reduce overheating during warm periods.
The house sparrow tower should be mounted on a tall metal mast/pole, preferably 6 metres high. For a stable and safe installation, it is recommended to anchor the mast approximately 1 to 1.5 metres into the ground, depending on the soil conditions.
