Description

This integrated nest box is suitable as a nesting site for species that prefer a box with a larger opening. When installed in appropriate locations in new construction facades, species such as black redstart and white wagtail may also use the nest box. Species such as robins, gray flycatchers, and sparrows may also use this nest box. The inhabitants of these nest boxes will depend on where the boxes are located.

The height of this integrated nest box fits perfectly into a 3-layer wall format. This integrated nest box is made entirely of FSC®-certified WoodStone. WoodStone is a mix of 100% FSC®-certified wood fibres and concrete. This robust material is environmentally sustainable and will last for decades.

  • Install the integrated nest box horizontally with the front flush with the facade.
  • The species mentioned are not colony breeders so only a few integrated nest boxes per location need to be installed.
  • Do not install nest boxes directly over doors or windows.
  • Facades facing north and east are preferred as they are generally more sheltered from direct sunlight, wind, and rain. It is also possible to install the nest box in another facade as long as it is well-protected from sun, rain, and wind (for example, under a roof overhang where there are no protruding pipes or parts that obstruct the entrance). Do not install the nest boxes where there is exposure to direct sunlight or on southwest facades where there is a chance of rain intrusion.
  • Do not add nesting material.

This integrated nest box cannot be opened, but it can be cleaned in the winter months by removing the nesting material through the opening. No further maintenance is required.
