NK GZ 20 Swift Facade Nest Box Triple

Pre-order available. Available from mid-September. Request your quote now.

The NK GZ 20 is a durable swift nest box suitable for larger facade projects. This version provides space for three breeding pairs and can be installed under gutters, roof edges or an overhang – the natural nesting location of the swift.

The NK GZ 20 triple swift facade nest box is particularly suitable for mitigation and compensation measures on facades and can be easily applied in new construction, renovation and existing buildings. The nest box creates additional breeding space and contributes to nature-inclusive building and the preservation of urban populations.

This nest box is also regularly used by the house sparrow. This increases the likelihood that swifts will discover the box. When swifts wish to occupy the nesting site, they usually take over the box from the house sparrows.

Durable and lightweight material

The nest box is made from fiberstone, a plant-based fibre concrete. This material is highly durable and lighter than Woodstone®.

Its low weight simplifies installation, especially when mounted at height. In addition, the material is fire-resistant, making it suitable for use on urban facades.

The exterior is finished with a spray cork coating. This finish provides additional protection against weather conditions and gives the box a natural appearance. As a result, the nest box has a long service life.

Safe and stable breeding space for swifts

Swifts naturally breed in colonies, where several nesting opportunities close together significantly increase the chance of establishment. The NK GZ 20 is perfectly suited to this behaviour. The box consists of three separate units, each with its own fully separated nesting chamber for one breeding pair.

Each internal nesting chamber is equipped with a nesting barrier that prevents eggs from rolling away. This increases breeding success.

The entrance opening is reinforced with an additional cast-concrete entrance stone. This makes damage or excavation by larger birds, such as ring-necked parakeets, more difficult.

An opening is located at the rear for inspection and cleaning. This ensures that maintenance remains practical and extends the service life.

Part of a complete series

The NK GZ 20 triple swift facade nest box is ideal for large projects. For projects with fewer breeding spaces, the NK GZ 18 (single) can be chosen. As a mid-range option, the NK GZ 19 (double) can also be selected.

Overview of the species mentioned with their Latin names Apus apus (swift), Passer domesticus (house sparrow)

  • The box can easily be mounted using the two supplied Z-hooks.
  • Installation is preferably carried out with several nest boxes grouped together.
  • Mount the box as high as possible, preferably directly under a gutter or roof overhang. When installed under a sufficient overhang, mounting on south or southwest facades is possible. Without an overhang, boxes should only be installed on facades facing between north and east.

Cleaning can be carried out through a hole at the rear. Excess nesting material can be removed through this opening.

Maintenance is preferably carried out in late autumn or during the winter months. When the box is used exclusively by swifts, cleaning is usually hardly necessary, as this species uses very little nesting material. When used by other species, cleaning is recommended.
