To mitigate and compensate for starlings, several facilities are often installed. These can include nest boxes as well as pole-mounted starling boxes. A pole-mounted nesting box has the significant advantage of not creating pollution on the facade, which is often the case when starlings nest in boxes on or in the facade.
This pole-mounted nesting box provides 9 nest boxes under one roof for multiple starling pairs. It is also used by house and ring sparrows.
The pole-mounted nesting box is constructed of a metal frame finished with exterior plywood and treated with a coat of Ecolabel paint in color RAL 9010. The roof is covered with black roofing slate, and the roof structure features an additional layer for ventilation, preventing the nest boxes from overheating in hot weather.
When properly placed, pole-mounted nesting boxes can withstand wind forces of at least 10.
ST SP 01 Pole mounted starling tower
A pole-mounted starling box can be placed anywhere starlings are prevalent or desired. Pole-mounted nesting boxes can also provide new breeding sites on construction sites.
This pole-mounted nesting box comes with a galvanized metal mast that is 6 meters long. The mast is grounded for extra stability and safety during installation.
- Also supplied with the pole-mounted nesting boxes are the means to install the pole, including bags of quick concrete and supports to keep the pole stable for the first few days after installation.
- Place the mast at least 1 to 1.5 meters deep in the ground, depending on the soil conditions at the site.
- To protect the pole-mounted nesting boxes from vandalism, it is advisable to establish prickly vegetation around them.

The nest boxes in the pole-mounted nesting boxes can be opened from the front for maintenance. To do this, remove the two screws from the front panels. Additionally, the pole-mounted nesting box requires minimal maintenance. If needed, the head of the pole-mounted nesting boxes can be repainted after a few years. Starlings use the pole-mounted nesting boxes year-round, including during the winter months.
