Description
This large maternity bat box is suitable for installation against masonry walls and other rough facades. Bats can access the box in two ways: through the wall, as the back wall has a 2 cm clearance, and through the openings at the bottom. The open bottom allows for easy checking. The three compartments, spaced 19 mm apart, are interconnected through holes in the partitions.
Several bat species can use this bat box, including the Common Pipistrelle, Nathusius’ Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, Bearded Bat, and Brandt’s Bat, depending on the local species. This box is suitable as a maternity box but can also serve as a summer and/or breeding box. In mild winters, it can also function as a shelter. The compartments (including the space between the wall and the box) create different microclimates inside.
As a maternity/summer or breeding box, it is suitable for:
- Whiskered Bat
- Common Pipistrelle
- Soprano Pipistrelle
- Serotine (experimental)
- Pond Bat (experimental)
- Nathusius’ Pipistrelle
- Particoloured Bat (possibly also as a maternity box)
In mild winters, it may also be used by:
- Common Pipistrelle
The box is made of waterproof bonded exterior plywood. The inside of the back wall and one side of the partition are finished with spray cork for good grip. For better protection and insulation, the exterior of the box is also finished with spray cork. The box comes with the appropriate hanging hardware for easy mounting.
