Description

This facade bat box has been successfully used for many years. The box is finished in black to allow the temperature inside to warm up quickly when placed in a shady, cooler location. This bat box is also available in white (VK WS 11), which has the advantage of heating up less quickly when installed in sunny, warm places. The box is suitable as a summer and/or breeding box, and in mild winters, it can also serve as a shelter.
The box is made of 100% WoodStone® (WoodStone® is a mix of 100% FSC®-certified wood fibres and concrete) and comes with a convenient Z-hook for mounting on the facade. Several species of bats can use this bat box, depending on the local species and where it is hung.
As a summer or breeding box, it is suitable for:

  • Common Pipistrelle
  • Nathusius’ Pipistrelle
  • Soprano Pipistrelle
  • Whiskered Bat
  • Brandt’s Bat
  • Brown Long-eared Bat
  • Particoloured Bat

In mild winters, it may also be used by:

  • Common Pipistrelle
  • Brown Long-eared Bat
  • Place the bat box in a suitable location on the facade using the Z-hook provided.
  • Use the additional plug and screw for extra secure installation of the box.
  • Install the box at a minimum height of 3 meters.
  • The box is less suitable for installation in trees, but it can be done.
  • The box can be placed facing any wind direction.
  • Provide a clear approach and egress route for the box.
  • Do not place boxes above windows and doors.
  • Do not install the box on illuminated facades or in light from lampposts, etc.
  • It is preferred to have multiple boxes placed near each other. When doing so, vary the wind direction and altitude.

You can clean the bat boxes once a year in winter, preferably during a frost period. Be sure to check that the boxes are not occupied first. A special long-handled brush can be used to remove cobwebs and other debris, such as feces. We also recommend checking the soundness of the nest box and its suspension annually.
