Several species of bats can use this bat box, depending on the local species and where it is hung. This box is suitable as a summer and/or breeding box, and in mild winters, it can also serve as a shelter.
Bat boxes can be placed either on a tree or on a facade. Preferably choose a sunny spot, but do not place the box under or in artificial light. Avoid direct rain exposure. Hang the bat box using the screws provided. There is a “keyhole” in the back wall where the mounted screw can be hooked in. The pre-drilled hole in the approach board allows for additional security of the bat box. It is preferred to hang several boxes together. When installed in attics and stables, place boxes as high as possible against the wall or posts. For high spaces in stables or attics, install boxes at least 3 feet off the ground.
You can clean the bat boxes once a year in winter, preferably during a frost period. Be sure to check that the boxes are not occupied first. A special long-handled brush can be used to remove cobwebs and other debris, such as feces. We also recommend checking the soundness of the nest box and its suspension annually.
