Description
There are situations when it is necessary to make a building or tree bat-free. This may occur during renovations or demolitions of buildings, or when a tree is being cut down. This process requires an exemption from the Nature Protection Act.
Making a site bat-free can be achieved with this exclusion flap. Place the flap over the entrance opening, allowing bats to exit while the smooth surface of the rubber flap prevents them from re-entering, creating a one-way traffic system.
The images below, provided by Mark Bouwmeester of Ecoresult B.V., clearly illustrate how the exclusion flap works in practice.
Note!
The installation of flaps should only be done by a professional and outside vulnerable periods. Placement is definitely not allowed from May 15 to July 31 and during the winter period between November 1 and March 31. Outside these dates, placement may only be done with a waiver and if it is certain that no maternity colony is present.
Since every situation is different, the exclusion flaps are not provided with suspension holes. The wooden backboard can be easily nailed down using steel wire nails (not included). This product should be applied well before work begins to ensure bats have enough time to leave the property. Additionally, provide sufficient alternative habitats using bat boxes. Never use this method during maternity season or hibernation.
The flaps require no maintenance and can be removed over time for use in another project.
