Description
This hazelnut box has been successfully used for many years. It provides an ideal habitat for a hazel dormouse, serving as a hiding, sleeping, maternity, or wintering place. The box is made of pine and finished with a water-based varnish. It also features a removable lid for monitoring purposes.
CAUTION: Hazel dormice are sensitive to disturbance. Monitoring should only be conducted by experienced experts.
The hazel dormouse box is suitable for installation on trees or in dense bushes.
- Position the box with the entrance hole facing the trunk. No screws or other fasteners are included.
- The best locations for the box are dense shrubs or trees overgrown with climbing plants such as honeysuckle or ivy.
- Place several boxes in one location about 15 meters apart.
- The average hanging height is approximately 1.5 meters. When installing multiple boxes in one location, we recommend varying the heights to create different microclimates.
There is no need to clean the boxes annually. However, if an inspection reveals that the nest is damp or moldy, it makes sense to clean the box.
