This built-in box is ideal for compensating a bat summer or mating roost in new construction projects.

The bat nesting box is used in combination with the IB VL 09 entrance stone, which is built into the exterior wall. For walls with their own cladding, such as timber frame construction (TFC), a proper connection to the entrance opening must be created on-site.

The box is made of exterior-grade plywood and finished with spray cork on the outside and on two interior sides. Thanks to the two spacious chambers, various microclimates are created, offering bats suitable roosting spots.

The sloped design on the inside of the IB VL 11 ensures that bat droppings are automatically discharged through the entrance stone, preventing buildup inside the box.

Suitable as a maternity and winter roost for:

  • Common pipistrelle

  • Nathusius’ pipistrelle

  • Soprano pipistrelle

Possibly also suitable for noctule and other species.

 

  • Preferably install this large box in multiple locations across the façade, varying in height and orientation.
  • Install the box at a minimum height of 4 meters.
  • If used with the IB VL 09, first brick in the entrance stone and allow it to dry. Then place the built-in box inside the entrance stone, aligning the edges so that the openings connect perfectly.
  • The built-in box can be secured using cavity wall anchors (not included), or by any other suitable method as desired.
  • Do not install boxes directly above doors or windows.
  • Ensure a clear flight path to and from the box, and never place boxes in or under artificial lighting.

Thanks to the sloped interior, droppings can easily roll out through the entrance stone. Additionally, the movement of bats crawling in and out will help push any remaining droppings outward.
It is advisable to check annually whether the entrance opening is still clean. If necessary, it can be cleaned with a brush.
